Woodturning on the electric lathe has been dropped lately owing to great haste in finishing the afore-mentioned cupboards.
Doctor has been busy at his favourite task, that of reproducing Heraldic designs. He has quite a number of ways of copying the coats of arms, and when finished they always present a most pleasing colour scheme.
As can be judged from this report, quite a lot of work is done on Handicraft nights at Doctor's.
M. FORD.
TO THE NEW RECRUITS.
I want all of you newcomers to carefully read the few lines below and to think about them seriously.
When you first come over the room you feel very strange and uncomfortable, but when you know all of the other fellows you are in possession of the most valuable thing in the world friendship.
Of course, if you make yourself unpopular by excessive cheek, which is really out-and-out rudeness, you can never realise the joy of being friends with other lads.
When you have been placed into a Patrol, endeavour to show your Patrol-Leader that you are trying hard to pass your tests. Above all, obey your P.L.'s commands at once, never stop to cheek him or refuse to do it. After all, you have promised on your honour that you will do so; don't break your word!
Furthermore, if you see a job that wants doing, do it; don't wait for someone else to come along; never shirk anything, no matter how irksome it may be.
Some newcomers rather fight shy of the Gym. class; my advice is come and try it. The keenness of boys who attend regularly will convince you that there is great fun in it. Unless you are ill or have a special excuse, it is your duty to back Doctor up every Thursday night, and if each boy tries hard to make the class a success it will repay a small amount of the kindness Doctor shows in giving up so much of his time.
