1st East Grinstead Scout Group
Centenary 1908 - 2008

Swindon is devoid of any interesting sights, and the only popular place seemed to be Woolworth’s. On Sunday morning we started our return journey. The boys on the Van stopped at Guildford for lunch, where they met Frank Salter, and a happy re-union lunch was held.

We all had a deep respect for the men who centuries ago built such wonderful Cathedrals and yet were unable to read or to write.

The weather was dull for most of the time, but everybody was satisfied and extremely grateful to Doctor, who gave us such a delightful time.

P. L. G. FERRARI.

CAMP CLEANLINESS.

Now don't think that I ant going to write about water I've never found the East Grinstead Scouts afraid of that. The cleanliness I mean is that of tidiness and order of having everything in its right place, and in proper condition.

Keeping things in the right place. The making of gadgets is a great help to tidiness, for they form the places for putting things - racks for plates, mugs, boots, etc., and lines for drying of towels, and wet clothes, all help to keep the camp clean and neat.

Chopping wood usually makes no end of a mess, which cannot altogether be avoided, but if all chopping is done in one place, the chips can easily he collected and are jolly useful when dried for getting a quick fire. Many jobs are like this one, they cause a mess, do not forget that the job is not finished until the mess is cleared away. Be very careful with other people's property, for carelessness in this respect frequently leads to things being put in the wrong place; for instance, knives, forks and plates in the tent, wet towels in a kit-bag with dry clothes or on blankets just because the owner of them is afraid to trust them to the mercies of his fellows. P.L.’s should see that these articles are put where they belong and they are safe.

Finish of your Job: A job not finished off is only half done it is nothing but a muck-through, it is no credit to you, and is a nuisance to others. Therefore, if you are in a hurry don't leave the job before it is finished, but put your back into it and save time by speed.
