TROOP NEWS.
The Ordinary Troop routine work continues to progress as well as our various other activities. We hay, now several 1st Class Scouts and this should gradually improve the standard of Scouting in the Troop, as the senior lads are increasing their knowledge and capabilities of teaching the younger boys
Of the camping at Nutley you will read elsewhere sufficient to say that the Leaders have been very busy preparing their boys for Tests, etc., to be passed -or failed at Scoutly
Summer Camp . This year we are taking the whole Troop, except three unfortunates who are unable to take their holidays at this time. Better luck for them next year: There is the usual keen anticipation and most of the boys have been saving hard for some time. Doctor has been over to inspect the site, and has made all arrangements for excursions, etc., and we now await the evening of August 6th, when little Bobby, Donnie, etc., turn up at the Station with bright, shiny knees and necks. Quite a thrill this, especially for the "first-timers." "Pop" Gravett is again coming with us and the have the added good fortune to have enticed Don Potter, the Gilwell Scout, Woodcarver, Rope Spinner, etc., to join us. You boys should jump at this opportunity to learn how. to spin a rope. It is a fact that Don is one of the best if not the best
Rope Spinner in the world.
A last word about Camp and Camping, I do hope that all you boys will read and digest "Pop's" article in this issue.
Activities other than actual Scouting during the last two months have included Red Indian Dances, for the purpose of two shows and a short film. The leaders have also been busy teaching those few boys, who cannot swim to do so before going to Summer Camp.
The film show was quite a success, and is going to he featured in the Paramount Newsreel. The Danish Gymnastics and Tumbling was also "shot" and the film people seemed particularly pleased with this. (It was rather awkward for Mr. Goldsmith does not understand the American language). Of course, the boys thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing.
There an. a few vacancies in the Patrols, which we are going to fill after Summer Camp, this we usually, do through the P.L.’s after an introduction to Dr. Walker. The new boys can then get through the elementary outdoor tests at Scoutly and continue the indoor training throughout the Winter
