Between the two wars, the boys or now young men, formed a Gliding Club, and this existed as a flourishing concern up to a year or two prior to the last war, but thinking back on those early pioneering days, the grand fun we had in constructing and flying our own machines, one cannot help thinking that something should be done to encourage youth movements generally to take up this thrilling sport.

Most of the information concerning these events has been provided by George’s daughter, Beryl Golding to whom I am indebted. She also has recalled that in 1914 Dr Walker presented George with a silver cigarette case inscribed, ‘C J S from S L W, 27 VI 14’. Shortly afterwards George enlisted and carried the case throughout the First World War.
