The original meeting room of the scouts is described as a Builders Ladder Room in Glen Vue Road, later to be renamed Railway Approach. Enquires with the East Grinstead Museum have failed to locate a photograph of these premises but without doubt they were situated behind what is now the Mai Ping Thai Restaurant at 16 Railway Approach. Prior to the premises conversion to a restaurant they traded as Goodwins Hardware shop and at this time there were a number of wooden outbuildings and stores at the rear of the premises, which without doubt was the location of the original meeting room
The second headquarters is described as the Old Masonic Hall in West Street East Grinstead. This building was situated opposite the top of Ship Street and was demolished in the 1950’s. A photograph of this building is shown below. Immediately opposite this building is the ‘Old Stone House’, these being the residence of Dr Walker.
