SEA RESCUE BOYS GET MEDALS
Two 17-year-old boys from the East Grinstead area who saved a drowning man at Eastbourne seven months ago, were each presented with a Royal Humane Society medal by chairman of East Grinstead magistrates, Mr. Thomas Shelford, on Monday.
Peter Simmons of Sackville Gardens. East Grinstead, and Michael Moon. of Eightacres Cottages, West Hoathly, braved six foot;high waves and a running tide to reach 22-year-old Graham Bulwer, who got into difficulties 50 yards from the shore on August 25 when his flippers broke and he couldn't swim back against the current.
Chief superintendent of East Grinstead Police. Ronald Simpson. told the magistrates it was a very gallant rescue. particularly as Mr. Bulwer panicked and pulled both boys under the water.
He said the Chief Constable of Sussex. Mr. Christopher Williams. would like to add his congratulations to the boys. Mr. Shelford told the boys he was sure he spoke for his colleagues on the Bench and the general public.
