Jubilee AGM 1958

The Jubilee AGM of the Group in 1958 entertained Dr Walker as the guest of honour who presented to the Group many albums of photographs, unfortunately these were lost in the headquarters fires in 1983. The following press reports appeared;

TRADITION

It was heartening to hear at the annual meeting of the 1st East Grinstead Boy Scouts Group that the leaders have faith in the boys of today. They should know, if anybody does, for the Boy Scout movement is built on tradition of the highest order.

Of all the groups, East Grinstead has history of between 40 and 50 years behind it, having been established very soon after the founding of the movement by Lord Baden-Powell just half-a-century ago, and right behind it was Dr. S. L. Walker.
His attendance at the annual meeting brought back a host of memories, for under his guiding hand East Grinstead Boy Scouts were regarded as second to none in the country.

That Dr. Walker should have chosen this occasion to present the group with his magnificent collection of photographs of the past covering nearly half a century, must have delighted the present Group Scoutmaster, Mr. E. Cooper. I foresee a most interesting winter's evening at head-quarters looking at these photo-graphs on the screen, for slides have been made of most of them. And there could be no better commentator than the doctor himself.

Apart from personal and historic interest, the photographs have the hallmark of tradition behind them—a tradition faithfully handed down to this day.
